Waltham Abbey
Over recent years, new housing developments in and around Waltham Abbey have meant that there has always been a good choice of properties to let, and, like other towns just outside London, demand for all types of property is consistently high and properties are always let very quickly.
Waltham Abbey, is situated on the border of Essex and Hertfordshire. Although very close to London, it is still very much a country town with Epping Forest to the east and the magnificent Lee Valley to the west.
The town is steeped in British history and with its medieval Abbey, it has had Royal visitors from the 11th century onwards. After becoming a market town the Gun Powder Mills were established in the 1500's, the gunpowder being transported by barge. The industry stopped finally after the Second World War, the mills becoming an explosives research establishment which closed in the 1990's and has now become a museum.
Today, the ancient Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays continues a 700 year old tradition and maintains its character and charm. Old buildings can be seen in the town and the Lee Canal, to the west, once used to transport the gunpowder and is now a pleasant place to walk.
One of the best things about Waltham Abbey is the Lee Valley Park. This large park extends from Hertfordshire to the north all the way south to East London, following the river, a distance of 22 miles. Besides being a fabulous walk amongst willows and oaks there is fishing, golf, birdwatching, and even an icerink. It truly covers a very large area, in fact, you will be lucky (not to mention tired) to cover all of it in one day.
